This book of 489 pages and 28 chapters is Mr. Sam in his own words.

It was edited by H. G. Dulaney (Mr. Sam's aide from 1951 until his death and former Director of the Sam Rayburn Library and Museum); Edward Hake Phillips (Professor emeritus of American History at Austin College and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Sam Rayburn Foundation.); and McPhelan Reese who is now deceased (a native of Bonham, Texas; a poet and artist and beloved former member of the staff at the Sam Rayburn Library and Museum).

"Rayburn's own words tell the story of his life, his thoughts, his ideals, his moods, his ambitions, his dreams for a nation and its people as no biography could.  Pieced together in a fascinating book is Rayburn's story as no one other than the Speaker could tell it."

Robert E. Hollingsworth
Vice President and General Manager

This 8 1/2 X 11", 194 page book, edited by the same authors as "Speak, Mr. Speaker", provides a fascinating look at Mr. Sam's career through the eyes of the various political cartoonists of his time.

These are copies of the many political cartoons on exhibit at the Sam Rayburn Library and Museum in Bonham, Texas and some loaned to the Library for use in this book.

A few examples from the book are shown here.  The book was printed in 1987 and these are first edition, 1st printing copies.
